At East Bay SPCA, we believe every animal deserves nutritious food, and we are excited to announce our Pet Food Pantry is officially open to pet parents who live in Alameda County.
We will offer two different ways for you to pick up pet food through our pantry program.
Option One: Pet Food Pantry Distribution Day

Pet owners must:
- Live in Alameda County
- Have a working phone number
- Register ahead of time
If you successfully register you’ll be sure to receive food on the distribution day.
We will be distributing a limited amount of food per household. You will receive:
• For a cat – approximately five pounds of dry food
• For a dog less than 30 pounds – approximately ten pounds of dry food
• For a dog more than 30 pounds – approximately fifteen pounds of dry food
If we have wet/canned food, we will automatically add to your order.
All events will take place at 8323 Baldwin Street in Oakland from 12-2pm.
If you successfully register you’ll be sure to receive food on the distribution day.

- Tuesday 11/19 – Registration opens 11/11 and closes 11/15 (or when full)
- Tuesday 12/17 – Registration opens 12/9 and closes 12/13 (or when full)

Option Two: Visit a Local Human Food Partner
We partner with a number of human food banks in Alameda County. Please reach out to these food banks to inquire about food pickup through their program. Supplies are limited.

Homemade Cat Food Recipe
Dogs can have these vegetables: sweet potatoes, green beans, pumpkin, spinach, greens, lettuce, carrots, peas, and broccoli. They can also have these fruits: watermelon, apples without seeds, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, pears, and cantaloupe.
Dogs can NOT have bones, pork, chocolate, avocado, onions, garlic, grapes/raisins, nuts, apricots, plums , shallots, leeks, scallions, xylitol.
Please consult your veterinarian for other foods your dog can and cannot have.
This recipe yields about 8 cups of food for your dog.
Important: Do not use pork or bones of any kind.
1 & ½ cup brown rice
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 pounds cooked ground beef, turkey, or chicken
3 cups baby spinach, chipped
2 carrots, shredded
1 zucchini, shredded
½ cup peas, canned or frozen
Mix everything together and store in the refrigerator.
Cats can have fish, cooked poultry, bananas, berries, melon, carrots, rice, pumpkin, oatmeal, eggs, and spinach.
Cats can NOT have: dairy, chocolate, nuts, grapes/raisins, garlic, onions, shallots, leeks, scallions, xylitol, coconut milk, seeds, raw meats or fish, raw or uncooked bread dough.
Please consult your veterinarian for other foods your cat can and cannot have.
In a pinch, use one of these 2 recipes for your cat:
1 can sardines in oil
2 tablespoons of cooked carrot, mashed
⅓ cup cooked oatmeal
OR
1 cup cooked chicken (boiled or baked)
¼ cup steamed broccoli, mashed
¼ cup steamed carrots, mashed
¼ cup Chicken broth
For either recipe, combine ingredients until smooth and cool to room temperature before serving. Store in the refrigerator.

Did your pet just eat something poisonous? Call your veterinarian or Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661 immediately. The sooner a pet poisoning is addressed, the easier, less expensive, and safer it is to treat.

Donating to Pet Food Pantry
To donate cat or dog food to support the Pet Food Pantry, please see our Amazon Wishlist to have donated items delivered directly to our Oakland location.
We are currently accepting donations Wed-Sun from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at our Oakland Adoption Center and Dublin Adoption Center. Donations can be placed in our donation bins located outside of the shelter entrance. We accept unopened dog and cat food in its original packaging that has not expired.
