Learning Labs
Training Events to Fit Your Schedule and Budget
East Bay SPCA is now offering informative seminars and workshops with your needs in mind. These educational training events provide targeted instruction on some of the most common and challenging behaviors, with tools that you can implement immediately.
Our Learning Labs are designed to get you started with the training you need right away! Check out all our offerings below.
Reactivity is our most requested training topic! This accessible seminar is designed to give you all the information that you and a private trainer would discuss during your first session. For those waiting on a class or time slot, or for those who just want the tools to get started on their own, this seminar is the perfect fit.
Training your dog to do…nothing? Sometimes that can be the hardest behavior! Don’t mug the dinner table. Don’t jump on visitors. Don’t roughhouse around the kids. Dogs are never doing “nothing,” and in this seminar and workshop you will learn how to teach them what you DO want them to do — relax and feel calm. This is a skill just like any other, and live training demonstrations will show you what that training looks like!
Enrichment as a problem-solver? Most have heard about enriching their animals’ lives through puzzles, toys, and novel experiences. But did you know you can use enrichment as a tool for behavior change? Come learn how to add vibrancy to your animal’s life, as well as prevent behaviors like jumping, counter-surfing, nipping, and more. This seminar will cover both dog and cat enrichment.
Help your dog learn to come when called! This behavior is one of our most requested, but takes some consistent work. Hear how the latest science approaches this common behavior, watch live training demonstrations to learn the foundations, and learn how to set up practice sessions in the real world that will actually lead to reliable recall.
“Help! My dog pulls on their leash!” Walking with a loose leash makes outings more pleasant for us and for our dogs. But there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye! In this workshop, our trainers will blend behavior theory with practical skills and live training demonstrations to give you all the tools you need to create a harmonious on-leash relationship with your dog.
Does your dog throw themselves at everyone they meet? Do you wish you had alternative outlets for their enthusiastic greetings, or ways to help them decompress and choose to relax? Our Rowdy Rovers workshop is here to help. In this seminar we’ll share practical skills that will not only give you ways to manage jumping when training isn’t an option, but will offer strategies to begin to change the ways your dog interacts in previously overexciting moments.
