Youth Volunteer Club
A little learning, a little volunteering, a whole lotta fun! This after-school volunteer program is for students ages 10 and up who wish to help our organization but are too young to volunteer independently.
How Does it Work?
Volunteer Club meets from 4pm-6pm, once per week, for four weeks (unless otherwise noted). Participants should enroll based on their age on the first day of the session they are registering for. All program hours are eligible to be signed off as service hours (hours will be signed off at the end of each session). Volunteer Club is an opportunity for youth to volunteer, without needing their parents/guardians to be present. Please note, we cannot accommodate any makeup sessions. Students will receive one volunteer shirt on their first day of their initial session only (students registering for multiple sessions will not receive additional shirts). Additional shirts are available to purchase for $15 each.
The fee for Volunteer Club is $100/student/4 week session (shorter sessions due to holidays will be prorated accordingly). This fee helps to cover the cost of staff supervision during the program. Limited financial assistance is available for qualified applicants. Please contact us if you need an application in another language, or if you prefer to complete a hardcopy rather than online.

What Will We Be Doing?
Each day, students will be completing a variety of tasks to assist East Bay SPCA programs and the animals in our care. The tasks for each day are dependent on our organization’s needs at that moment. Some examples of potential Volunteer Club tasks include making dog treats, assisting with shelter laundry, creating adoption posters, preparing for upcoming East Bay SPCA programs or events, making cat toys, assisting with shelter clean-up, providing attention for the animals in our care, etc. While completing their volunteer tasks, participants will learn about responsible pet care, the medical needs of animals, dog and cat behavior, training techniques, animal advocacy and more. Please note that this is a volunteer program–while all volunteer tasks will be centered around helping the shelter and the animals in our care, participants should not expect to spend the full session with the shelter animals. In order to make sure our animal-loving participants still get the dog and cat time we know they love, we will plan to include a minimum of one hands-on animal meet-and greet per day. As an animal shelter is a very dynamic environment, the planned daily tasks are always subject to change based on the needs of our staff, volunteers, and shelter animals.
