Valentine’s Week Program
The East Bay SPCA offers an interactive educational tour to teach children the importance of pet care and to assist them in fostering an appreciation for all living beings.
This program is prefect for any group of children including school field trips, youth groups, and community service clubs. Please see below for more information and if you are interested in having your group visit the East Bay SPCA (either in Oakland or Dublin) please follow the instructions below.
What is the program?
The program is an hour and a half educational tour ending with a meet and greet of a few of our shelter guests. Topics covered during the tour include history and mission of the organization, basic needs of a pet, pet overpopulation, the cost of adoption and caring for a pet, veterinary care, spay and neuter, common diseases or illnesses, grooming and more. If there is something specific you want covered, just let us know!
Is there a fee?
Because the East Bay SPCA is a non-profit organization that relies almost solely on donations from individual donors, we ask that each tour group provide a donation in the amount of $5.00/child or student. The donations are crucial to our ongoing support of the community and its animals, and allow us to provide for further Humane Education and Outreach Programs.
How many children may attend?
To facilitate a scout tour there must be at least 5 children that attend, and no more than 20. If you have a small group we encourage you to pair up with another small group so that you have enough children for the program. If your group is large, and you have more than 20 children that wish to attend, we can always break them up and do two separate programs to be able to accommodate them all. Because of the animal interaction, we have to be sure to limit our numbers, so that we do not overwhelm our furry friends.
When are the tours offered?
We offer tours at either of our adoption centers. You may request to book a tour between 11am and 5pm. Tours must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance, though often times we are booked two months out. We are unable to accommodate walk-ins. We do not offer any tours June-August as our staff and animals are busy in summer camp. Due to existing programs, we do not schedule tours on the weekends. We are currently booking tours on the following days:
Dublin Adoption Center
Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays
Oakland Adoption Center
Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays
Please contact education@eastbayspca.org to inquire about our limited weekend availability.
How do we sign up?
If you wish to bring your group for the tour program please fill out a program request form. It is helpful if you list a few dates in which you wish to attend, or even a day of the week. Education programs should be booked at least two weeks before the requested program date, however the sooner the better, it is never too early to book a program. Once your program request is received, the education department will contact you within 3 business days to confirm and complete your booking. Please note that we only offer tours on Friday in order to allow time and space for other programs during the week or weekend, we apologize for any inconvenience.
