Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program

The CIT Program is a great opportunity for teens (age 12-17) looking to gain volunteer experience with children and animals!  As a Counselor-In-Training, participants will assist our camp staff in leading engaging week-long sessions of Animal Camp.  CIT’s will help to facilitate crafts, games, lessons, and animal meet-and-greets throughout the camp session.


Location:  Camp sessions take place at both our Oakland and Dublin Adoption Centers

Application Deadline:  Sunday, April 15th

Process:  Upon reviewing applications, possible candidates will be invited to an interview. Selected CIT’s are required to attend a one-day mandatory training session, which will cover expectations, protocols, animal handing, safety techniques, etc.

Ideal Candidate(s): For our Spring and Winter programs, we are only able to accept CIT’s who have already completed a youth volunteer program with East Bay SPCA in the past (previous CIT program or Youth Volunteer Club).

Application Process:  A link to the application form will be added to this website by March 1st for Spring Camp and by November 15th for Winter Camp.

Application Deadline:  Spring CIT applications will be due by March 10th.  Winter applications will be due by December 1st.

Required Dates:  All applicants must be available for at least one full week of camp.
