Beginner Classes

Beginner classes are designed for those handlers and dogs who are new to the world of dog training! If you have never taken a class before, this is a great place to start! We teach the basics so you and your dog can create a solid bond and foundation on the track to meeting your overall behavior and training goals, as a team.

Puppy Kindergarten – Part 1

5 week class – For puppies between the ages 8 weeks and 20 weeks (2-5 months old) by the first day of class.

Puppy Kindergarten provides a strong foundation for various behaviors and allows them to experience new things in a safe and positive atmosphere. In this class your puppy will be introduced to new sights, sounds, textures, objects, and people as well as taught basic foundation behaviors. They will become familiar with sit, down, leave it, come, leash manners, and more. It’s vital for puppies to be properly and positively socialized. This class is the perfect place to gain these important skills and experiences!  Behaviors include: Sit, Down, Watch me, Name Game, Come, Wait, Polite greetings and Leave it.

The first class is a human-only orientation. Do not bring your dog to the first class.

Prerequisites: None.

Price: 150.00 for the 5 week class / 125.00 if you have adopted your dog

Older Puppy Kindergarten

5 week class – For puppies between the ages of 5 months and 11 months old by the first day of class.

Older Puppy Kindergarten Part 1 is the first class in a two class series designed for puppies who are entering their adolescence and need to learn their manners while continuing to experience new things. This class will help give your pup a strong foundation for various behaviors while also helping you to manage and troubleshoot common behavior problems like jumping, chewing, barking, and house training. Behaviors include: Sit, Down, Watch me, Name Game, Come, Wait, Polite greetings and Leave it.

The first class is a human-only orientation. Do not bring your dog to the first class.

Prerequisites: None.

Behavioral Appropriateness: If your dog does not get along with other dogs and/or barks incessantly at the sight of other dogs, s/he may not be appropriate for class.  Extremely fearful dogs may also have a hard time in the group class environment.  Please contact us in advance at training@eastbayspca.org if you’re unsure if your dog will be behaviorally appropriate for this class.

Price: 150.00 for a 5 week class / 125.00 if you have adopted your dog

Mind Your Manners – Part 1

5 week class – For puppies and dogs that are 5 months and older by the first day of class.

Mind Your Manners Part 1 is the first class in a two part series designed for adult dogs needing to learn (or brush up on) the basics. Ideal for newly adopted dogs, this class will help you bond with your new furry family member and gain a better understand of each other’s behavior. You will learn how to manage and troubleshoot common behavior concerns such as jumping, chewing, barking, and house training.   Behaviors include: Sit, Down, Watch me, Loose Leash Walking, Name, Come, Wait, Off, and Leave it.

The first class is a human-only orientation. Do not bring your dog to the first class.

Prerequisites: None.

Behavioral Appropriateness: If your dog does not get along with other dogs and/or barks incessantly at the sight of other dogs, s/he may not be appropriate for class.  Extremely fearful dogs may also have a hard time in the group class environment.  Please contact us in advance at training@eastbayspca.org if you’re unsure if your dog will be behaviorally appropriate for this class.

Wallflowers (Shy Dog Basic Manners)

5 week class – For puppies and dogs that shy/fearful and are 5 months and older by the first day of class.

Our Wallflowers class is designed for dogs that are shy and fearful with new people and in new environments. While helping your dog learn basic manners, we’ll also discuss the issues that drive fearful behavior and focus on techniques for building confidence and encouraging bravery in your dog. Behaviors Include: Sit, down, stay, touch, go to bed, relaxation techniques and confidence building techniques.

The first class is a human-only orientation. Do not bring your dog to the first class.

Behavioral Appropriateness: This class is designed for dogs that are shy/fearful around new people, new dogs, and/or in new environments. If your dog shows aggression toward people or other dogs when scared then he/she may not be appropriate for this class. Please contact us in advance at training@eastbayspca.org if you’re unsure if your dog will be behaviorally appropriate for this class.

Prerequisites: None.

Price: 150.00 for the 5 week class / 125.00 if you have adopted your dog

Manners Starter Crash Course

3 week class – For puppies and dogs that are 5 months and older by the first day of class.

This course is designed to set up a foundation of tools to help you and your pooch maneuver through everyday life. The behaviors taught in this class are useful in a variety of situations and help build focus, reliability and impulse control. We will work on day to day issues, such as begging at the table, greeting strangers, pulling on leash, and rushing through doorways. This course is a great choice for beginner dogs, new pet parents, or dogs that need a refresher course. Behaviors Introduced: Leash Walking basics, Polite greetings, gaining focus, Go to Bed, Wait at doorways, Sit, Down, and more!

All three classes meet with your dog.

Behavioral Appropriateness: If your dog does not get along with other dogs and/or barks incessantly at the sight of other dogs, s/he may not be appropriate for class. Extremely fearful dogs may also have a hard time in the group class environment. Please contact us in advance at training@eastbayspca.org if you’re unsure if your dog will be behaviorally appropriate for this class.

Prerequisites: None.

Price: 75.00 for the 3 week class

Vaccination Requirements

We are dedicated to the safety of all the dogs that attend classes, therefore we ask you to have at least 2 DH2PP vaccines before coming into any class. This shot should include Distemper and Parvo. We encourage a Bordetella vaccination, but it is not a requirement. For dogs 4+ months old, we also ask that your rabies vaccination be up to date. Please bring in your vaccination papers to your first class.

We do strongly recommend that you vaccinate your canine companion against the Canine Influenza Virus (CIV).  For more information on CIV talk with your veterinarian or visit our Canine Influenza Virus information page

“Bundle” Discount for Beginner & Advanced Classes

We offer a 15% “bundle” discount when you purchase a 5-week beginning level class and a intermediate/advanced level, Part 2 class at the same time.  For example, if you register for Puppy Kindergarten – Part 1 and Puppy Kindergarten – Part 2 at the same time, you will receive the 15% discount when you check out.  We offer this discount to encourage you to commit to your dog’s ongoing education!  To take advantage of this discount, contact training@eastbayspca.org for the special coupon code to enter at checkout.
