Youth Volunteer Club

Youth Volunteer Club

A little learning, a little volunteering, a whole lotta fun! Our after school club is a program for students ages 10 and up who wish to help our organization but are too young to volunteer independently through our volunteer program.

How Does it Work?

Youth, ages 10 and up, can register for the club and will meet for two hours one day per week after school for four weeks.

Each week there are different activities and projects that students will participate in.

Participants should enroll based on their age for the first day of the program session they are registering for.

All program hours are eligible to be signed off as service hours (hours will be signed off at the end of each session).

Please note, we cannot accommodate any makeup sessions. Please ensure that all students can attend the session dates in the month they are registering for.

Students will receive a volunteer shirt when they enroll in their initial club session only; additional shirts are available to purchase for $15 each.

The after school club is $100/student/4 week session, unless the session includes a holiday* then the price and session schedule will be adjusted.

All students will receive a certificate at the end of each session.

We encourage all children who are differently-abled and are more than happy to accommodate their needs. Each situation will have to be addressed on an individual basis to ensure that we can best meet the needs of the child and the animals. Please be sure to contact the education department ahead of time so we know if our program will be a good fit for your child:

What Will We Be Doing?

We have restructured our program to create a unique experience for each program day. Each session will include activities relating to the medical needs of animals, behavior & training, animal advocacy and animal themed careers. Each week of program will be different, our activities will not repeat! This is designed so that participants can attend for as many sessions as they like and always have a new experience. While at club students will spend about half their time learning and half their time volunteering. We strive to have the volunteer projects coordinate with the theme of our activities that week; for example if one week club members are learning about behavior and training, they may focus on shelter enrichment and stuff Kong’s for the dogs as one of the activities. Please note that an animal shelter is a very dynamic environment; while we have a plan for each week of the club, it is always subject to change based on the needs of our animal guests.

Youth Volunteer Club is a Humane Education program. If you have questions please email or (925) 230-1301.

*Youth Volunteer Club does not meet in the summer. Please consider attending our Summer Animal Camp. Registration for Fall 2017 programs are now open!
