ABOUT US

The Feral Fix is the East Bay SPCA's feral cat surgery program, available, by referral, at no cost to qualified residents of Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

About the East Bay Feral Fix:
The Feral Fix is a no-cost feral surgery program to assist Alameda and Contra Costa residents with problematic and costly feral issues in their community. Feral surgeries are provided by referral only, and by calling our Feral Cat Hotline. Vaccinations and testing are also available for a small fee, if desired.

The East Bay SPCA, along with feral cat experts around the country, practice T-N-R, or "trap-neuter-return," as a humane, effective method of controlling the feral cat population in our community. Learn more about The Benefits of Trap - Neuter - Return

Call our hotline (510.563.4635) to access the following resources:

  • Information and resources for people interested in helping trap feral cats in order to spay and neuter them. Messages are returned throughout the day by trained Feral Cat Hotline Volunteers
  • Cat trap rentals available for no fee ($50 refundable deposit per trap) for those interested in and capable of trapping feral cats. Cat Traps can only be rented for Trap-Neuter-Return ONLY.
  • No cost spay and neuter services for eligible feral cats (low cost services are also available for ineligible or owned cats). Vaccinations and medical treatment is additional. A Referral from Feral Fix staff is required.
  • Support and training over the phone to assist with trapping, surgery recovery and caretaking issues.
  • Access to a community network of other trappers and feral cat advocates for assistance for those individuals unable to use trap.

Eligibilty Requirements:

  • Cats must be feral to qualify. Feral cats are wild cats who are unhandleable by people, although their feeders may be able to get close or even pet them.
  • Cats need to be at least 4 months old to be spayed/neutered.  Here's what to do If You Find Kittens Outside
  • Clients should be willing to Trap-Neuter-Return (we'll walk you through the process) and keep the cats for the recovery period (1-3 days) before releasing them. Visit  our page on Trapping and Care of Feral Cats for more information.(this is a .pdf download and will require Acrobat Reader to view)
  • Clients should trap on their on property, or on someone else's property with their express written consent.
  • A $50 deposit per trap is required. This amount will be refunded if the traps are retured on time and in good condition. Traps are rented for a 2 week period.
