We realize the key to any success is strong team work and great communication. Here at the EBSPCA we are proud of the collaborative work we do with other organizations, shelters, and rescue groups. We could not solve the pet over population ourselves and we know the importance of good relationships with other entities working on the same problem.
UC DAVIS Shelter Medicine Program
UC Davis is a top Veterinary School. With the help of the Maddie's fund, the shelter medicine program helps shelters like ours identify shelter specific medical issues. We provide statistics and they provide us their expertise at creating protocols and helping with individual cases. They recently were able to diagnose a unique upper respiratory infection in a cat so well that we were able to safely adopt the cat out.
Alameda City and County Shelters
Since the creation of Goal 2007, we have been working with the city and county shelters in Alameda County to bring the euthanasia rates down. Through collaborative work such as VirtualPetAdoptions.com, Spay Neuter Programs and Transfering animals from their facilities to ours, we have seen significant decreases in the number of animals entering the facilities and the number of euthanasias.
Fix Our Ferals
Fix our Ferals is a all volunteer rescue group that helps spay and neuter feral cats. They also provide education, trapping advice and fostering assistance in the community. They put on free spay neuter clinics where they use volunteer vets to alter over 200 cats per day. Starting in 2004, they have been using our state of the art spay neuter surgery center for these clinics. In addition, we are working on a writing a grant to create more comprehensive startegies to end the euthanasia of cats in Alameda County.
OAKLAND WINTER CAT CAMPAIGN: The first Oakland Winter Cat Campaign was a great success. 229 feral cats were trapped, spayed or neutered, and released! We look forward to another successful campaign this winter. Thanks for Fix Our Ferals, and all of our wonderful volunteers who made it possible.
The Valley Humane Society
The Valley Humane Society of Pleasanton holds mobile adoptions in our Dublin facility. This allows Valley Humane to take advantage of our weekend traffic and leads to more adoptions of homeless animals.
East Bay Pit Fix
Pit bulls and pit bull mixes are the most popular breed in our community. This means more of them than any other breed ends up in the shelters. There just are not enough homes for all of these dogs. The only solution is education and spay/neuter. We are working with Bad Rap, a local pit bull rescue group, to provide free spay neuter surgeries to Alameda County residents as well as free pit bull education training classes. We hope to expand this program to do more outreach into communities most impacted by this unfortunate problem.
Rescue Groups Discounts
The Bay Area is lucky to have so many dedicated animal lovers. The number and qualify of the volunteer rescue groups in our area is tremendous. From groups like ICRA, Hopalong, to Friends of Fairmont, Friends of Hayward, and Fix our Ferals, we are blessed to have so many people looking out for the animals in our community. By offering discounted spay/neuter services to these groups, we are able to help them help us. They can use their limited funds to help more animals and we can help them spay and neuter as many as possible.
